After the success of its small car the Nissan Micra (petrol) in India, Nissan is all set to roll out the Nissan Micra diesel variant by the end of 2010. Even in the small car segment, the Indian customers prefer the diesel version as they prove to be more cost effective as compared with a petrol version.
The small car market in India is very competitive and to survive it, manufacturers not only need to provide good quality but also keep the cost factor low. The Nissan Micra diesel variant will compete with Maruti Swift and Ford Figo.
The new Nissan Micra is a 5 seater hatchback model with the 1.5L CRDi 9 (diesel) engine, the same that is used in the Renault Logan. There is not much difference between the diesel and the petrol Micra version when it comes to the features. Just like the petrol the diesel version also comes with start stop button, keyless entry etc.
The diesel engine produces torque of 150 – 160 Nm and power of 65 – 70 bhp. As far as the mileage is concerned the Nissan Micra diesel can give 20 to 25 km/l under ideal driving conditions.
The first REVA electric car, REVAi to be manufactured after $7.1 billion Mahindra & Mahindra took over, was finally launched in Hyderabad. The all electric car is now available at all Mahindra dealerships in Hyderabad. Anurag Bajaj of Park Hotel, Hyderabad became the proud owner of the first REVAi when he was handed over the keys by Sabita Indira Reddy P.
Mr R Chandramouli, Operations Chief, Mahindra REVA said on the occasion, “We are delighted to launch the REVAi in Hyderabad where there is already a great deal of interest in our vehicles. With issues such as climate change and carbon footprint taking centre stage globally, eco-friendly transportation has become the need of the hour. The electric vehicle market is hence, poised to grow rapidly. Mahindra’s extensive distribution network, coupled with our unique finance plan will help us make significant inroads into the local market.”
REVAi can travel upto 80 kms on a single full charge, has a top speed of 80 kmph and accelerates from 0-40 kmph in under 7 seconds. Its small size can help greatly in city traffic and while finding a parking space.

Kamal Hassan turns 56
Kamal Haasan celebrates his birthday today (November 7).
The Ulaganayagan is one of the two pillars of Tamil film industry and one of the finest actors in the country. He will be celebrating his birthday doing philanthropic and social welfare activities.
On his birthday, his fan club Tamil Nadu Kamal Haasan Welfare Movement will give away a number of gifts and several welfare schemes to people in all four southern states.
Some of the goodies to be gifted include a laptop for a 12th standard student, uniforms to 56 auto drivers, 15 tailoring machines to women, medicines worth Rs 20,000 to an NGO , 50 blankets to an institution.
