Close on the heels of having successfully conducted the World Classical Tamil Conference in Coimbatore, the Tamilnadu government is set to recreate the magic in Thanjavur for five days beginning today. A host of events including special exhibition, cultural shows, seminars and deliberations is being organised for five days beginning today to mark the completion of 1000 years of the famous temple in Thanjavur, built by King Raja Raja Chola.
The event kicks off later this evening with Thanjai Sangamam, a show that includes music, dance and drama glorifying Tamil culture. They would be staged in five different locations in the town.
On 22 September , State Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin would inaugurate an exhibition organised up by the Department of Archaeology on the premises of Thanjavur palace. The history, valour and achievements of King Raja Raja Chola would be showcased at the exposition comprising 15 stalls.
Later in the day, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would inaugurate a symposium on ‘The Contribution of Thanjavur to India’s Pride’. On Saturday, a seminar would be held at the temple, it would be presided over by Tamilnadu Finance Minister K Anbhazhagan.
Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, Tamil scholars Avvai Natarajan, Balasubramanaiam and Saradh Nambi Arooran among others would attend.
A grand dance recital comprising 1,000 members led by danseuse Padma Subrahmaniam would be staged in the evening.
On the last day (26 September), a millennium coin and a commemorative stamp comprising the image of the Big Temple and King Raja Raja Chola would be released as part of the celebrations.
Various developmental works have been carried out in Thanjavur to commemorate the celebrations at a cost of Rs 25 crore.
The Big Temple has been beautifully lit- up and huge pandal has been erected where the drama and music shows would be conducted.
Security has been beefed up in the town as large number of people from various parts of the State are expected to attend the celebrations.
Surveillance camera have been installed at most places and over 10,000 policemen have been deployed. Special bus facilities have been run from various places to Thanjavur.

The Show was hosted by the glamorous duo of Shriya Saran and Shyam (‘Kick’ fame).
