Today, September 15, 2010 Engineers Day in India.. Engineer’s Day 2010 which becomes 150 years. Wishing everyone a very Happy Engineers Day.Very few people must be knowing that every year, the Engineer’s Day is celebrated on Sept 15. Engineers Day is celebrated in honour of the birth of Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, a great Indian engineer and statesman

Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya’s father Srinivas Sastry was an Ayurvedi practitioner as well a Sanskirt scholar. When Mokshagundam was 15 years of age, his father passed away. He completed his schooling from Bangalore and went to Madras University in 1881 for B.A.

He served as the Diwan or First Minister of the princely state of Mysore. He also later made Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire by the British for his myriad contributions to the public good.

Sir M Vishweshwaraiah is known for his automatic flood protection system which was installed in Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune, Tigra dam in Gwalior and Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) dam in Mandya as well.

In 1955, he was honored with the Bharat Ratan for his great contributions in the engineering field and for the welfare of the people of India.
